Ghost flights and the slot utilisation rules

EurECCA strongly supports the European Commission’s efforts to convince third countries to make reciprocity deals on slot relief.

At the beginning of  March EurECCA called on the EU member states to address the issue of ghost flights that were being flown in order to comply with EU slot utilisation rules. The European Commission has ordered the temporary suspension of these utilisation rules meaning that airlines no longer stand to lose their slots. As the majority of fleets is now grounded due to the coronavirus crisis, this particular problem has been solved for European flights.

EurECCA strongly supports the European Commission’s efforts to convince third countries to make reciprocity deals on slot relief. The coronavirus crisis is a global one and airlines are being hard hit all over the world. EurECCA applauds the fact that the Commission has been able to make a deal with the Chinese government, China being an important destination of European airlines.
