EurECCA Celebrates 10th Anniversary with a Milestone Conference in Lisbon

Lisbon, 17 September 2024 – On Tuesday, 17 September 2024, the European Cabin Crew Association (EurECCA) celebrated its 10th anniversary in Lisbon, bringing together representatives from its partner unions, along with esteemed guests from various European countries, to mark a decade of progress, unity, and advocacy for cabin crew members across Europe.

The Conference, held at the SNPVAC Headquarters in Lisbon, provided a valuable platform for key stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on the common challenges, achievements, and evolving trends within the aviation industry.

The event featured several expert speakers who provided unique insights into various aspects of aviation and labor conditions:

Annette Groeneveld, President of EurECCA, opened the conference with a retrospective on EurECCA’s 10-year journey, outlining the association’s accomplishments and its vision for the future.
Dr. Luís Rodrigues, CEO of TAP, who delivered a compelling keynote address on the importance of labor agreements as a benchmark for social rules. His participation, along with a lively Q&A session, underscored the shared issues faced by cabin crews across nations and highlighted the need for collaboration and dialogue at both the national and European levels.
Filippa Folke from the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet explored the topic, “Impairing or repairing aviation crews’ working conditions?” shedding light on the significant impact of working conditions on the health and well-being of cabin crews.
David M. Arnoldussen, Senior Labour Mobility Officer at ELA, and Dra. Filipa Perestrello, Inspectora do Trabalho at ACT, discussed transnational companies and the importance of joint inspections to ensure fair working conditions for aviation personnel across Europe.
Dr. João Caiado from DGERT shared his expertise on mediation within the aviation sector, highlighting the role of mediation in resolving disputes and ensuring smooth labor relations.

One of the central themes of the Conference was the importance of strong European-level involvement in addressing the complex issues faced by the aviation industry, which is uniquely vulnerable to external conditions and disruptions. As speakers and participants emphasized, international solidarity is crucial for effectively representing the interests of cabin crews and ensuring their rights and well-being are protected in a rapidly changing environment.

In addition to the thought-provoking presentations, the event offered an opportunity to reflect on the last ten years of EurECCA’s achievements and its ongoing mission. As the aviation industry continues to evolve, EurECCA remains committed to fostering unity and cooperation across Europe to face future challenges head-on.
