The members discussed the many different situations in the relevant countries and how the members unions adjusted their individual strategy in the discussions with Ryanair.

The two main issues are on the one hand the successful and historic strike in Portugal by our union SNPVAC, on the other hand, the ongoing negotiations of our Italian union ANPAC. The two developments clearly show the different settings the union are in. The conference jointly set up a working group on transnational airlines to exchange views and to share relevant information and developments in the various countries. The newly elected Executive Committee will conduct an assignment for that working- group soon.

An important issue was the welcoming of a new member union from Greece. The cabin crew only union R.A.C.U. applied for membership and after going through the necessary legal procedures the conference adopted their application and welcomed then as a new full member union.

Due to our statues, the board was open for election. The new board consists of :

Annette Groeneveld- VNC

Corinne Basarot- STAVLA

Luciana Passo- SNPVAC

Micaela Strippoli- UNSA

Christoph Drescher- UFO

Xavier Gautier- SNPNC

Massimiliano Procesi- ANPAC

The Executive Committee consists of

Image

The Executive Committee from left to right : Christoph Drescher - President, Luciana Passo- Vice-President and Xavier Gautier - General Secretary

Christoph Drescher- President

Luciana Passo- Vice- President and

Xavier Gautier - General Secretary.

EurECCA's structure

The EurECCA Conference is entitled all powers to cary on the objectives of EurECCA. It meets at least once a year at a date and place stipulated by the Board. The EurECCA Conference will serve as a general assembly for decisions legally prescribed and for the appointment of the President, Vice-President and General Secretary as well as the other members of the Board. The Conference also decides on constitutional changes, membership and budget and subscription decisions.

The Board:
EurECCA is managed by the Board. The Board is comprised of at least 3 members up to a maximum of 7. Board members can come from full members only. The Board has 3 executive directors, a President, Vice-President and a General Secretary, coming from different members and different countries. All Board members will act collectively on behalf of all the members and in the interest of EurECCA.

Working Groups:
The Working Groups assist in the decision making of the Board. They mainly focus on technical aspects and do not have any decision making power as such. All full members can delegate Working Group members that will work together under a protocol and a responsible Board member to prepare EurECCA positions on topics that support EurECCA's objectives.

Membership to EurECCA:
All professional European cabin crew unions, whether independent or affiliated to a national union can apply for full membership of EurECCA. National unions in which the cabin crew section has the majority position and cabin crew unions from any other state bordering the EU and having close legislative and economic relations in the aviation sector can apply for full membership.
Full members hold a membership vote and card votes according to their number of affiliates.
Cabin crew unions or associations who do not fullfil the requirements for full membership can become an associated member. They enjoy a consultative status.

A closer look at EurECCA´s principals

All flight attendants count
At the core of EurECCA´s values is the single cabin crew member and its promotion. All we do, we do with a clear focus on the improvement of the living and working conditions of cabin crew in Europe. Through its independence and its open, inclusive policy, EurECCA gives a voice to those interests of cabin crew which are not heard in the European policy making process and politics in general. EurECCA gives these people and their interests a voice because every single cabin crew member counts.

Connecting Europe
EurECCA has been founded to articulate and develop the interest of affiliated national cabin crew unions on the European level. Therefore EurECCA tries to reduce the gap between independent unions in the EU and decision makers and policymakers in Brussels. As the European Union policy has become more important than nations policy, EurECCA is essential to influence European politics beyond national boundaries. By always respecting the different national frames and challenges in the respective countries, EurECCA connects between national and European policy by exchanging information and different experiences.
Furthermore EurECCA connects cabin crews already represented and those working under unfair conditions in numerous European countries.

EurECCA policy areas
EurECCA concentrates on different policies such as Flight Time Limitation (FTL), European cabin crew license, working contracts as well as occupational health and safety matters.
EurECCA also offers a platform for exchanging information and for coordinating transnational tasks on working and pay conditions.

Events

conference

Fri, 18 Oct 2019 06:14:23 +0000 EurECCA 144 at https://eurecca.eu Petition calling for end to toxic aircraft cabin : Sign the petition here ! https://eurecca.eu/post/petition-calling-end-toxic-aircraft-cabin-sign-petition-here Petition calling for end to toxic aircraft cabin : Sign the petition here !

EurECCA Wed, 09/04/2019 - 23:29

Are you sick of the toxic, contaminated air in planes? Sign the petition to put an end to it and make your health on-board a priority. In just a few days, the change.org petition she started has attracted signatures from more than 120,000 people – Trudie Dadd is hoping that at least 150,000 will join her in calling on governments to take action on this serious health issue. Sign the petition here.

You as a passenger, but also pilots and flight attendants are at great risk to be exposed to neurotoxic breathing air on any flight in most aircraft ! Stop contaminated cabin air in aircraft!

Every day, many millions of people board an aircraft, which has become a normal way of transportation in every day life. But what they do not know is that this flight could land them in a hospital or with debilitating illness because of exposure to toxic cabin air!

It often begins with flu like symptoms: limb pain, dizziness, fatigue and nausea. Long-term damage to the nerves, the lungs, the cardiovascular system or cognitive impairment may follow.

How do I know this? Because I am one of a growing number of people that has been affected. I had to end my flying career in 2016 following 2 onboard fume events within 1 year (2014/15) and the cumulative effects of 20+ years flying. My health had deteriorated badly and tests showed that chemicals used in aircraft engine oil were present in my body. My GP advised me to stop flying.

The World Health Organization recently published a new study about aircraft cabin air quality and the illness related to being exposed to the toxic fumes: "AEROTOXIC SYNDROME: A NEW OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE?" which shows a definite connection between in-flight toxic fumes and health damage.

Over many decades new victims have been added every day; it is now time to address the political leaders directly. The poisoning of human beings on flights cannot be tolerated any longer. This issue has been denied by the UK Government and airlines for too long.

On 17th September 2017 EasyJet announced they will be fitting filters to their aircraft - Due to "health concerns".

Politicians must stop ignoring this issue. Airline regulations must be implemented: aircraft must be fitted with SENSORS AND FILTERS and airlines must be placed under obligation to inform the public!

'JUSTICE WILL NOT BE SERVED UNTIL THOSE WHO ARE UNAFFECTED ARE AS OUTRAGED AS THOSE WHO ARE.' - Benjamin Franklin.

Sign the petition here.

News

Breaking

Wed, 04 Sep 2019 21:29:39 +0000 EurECCA 80 at https://eurecca.eu EurECCA's first steps towards joining European Commission's Sectoral Social Dialogue of Civil Aviation https://eurecca.eu/post/eureccas-first-steps-towards-joining-european-commissions-sectoral-social-dialogue-civil EurECCA's first steps towards joining European Commission's Sectoral Social Dialogue of Civil Aviation

EurECCA Thu, 06/27/2019 - 23:37

On 21 June 2019, EurECCA presented itself, and its 35,000 affiliates from 35 airlines, to the European Commission's Sectoral Social Dialogue of Civil Aviation in Brussels. The aim of the meeting was to explain who EurECCA is, our areas of expertise and the issues we face as cabin crew, with the aim of joining this institution and ensuring our interests are properly represented.

Download hour PDF to read the presentation.

<img alt="Image removed." src="/core/misc/icons/e32700/error.svg" title="This image has been removed. However as they are still not taking them in account, we can only assume that they lack the will to take action to remedy the situation while awaiting the report of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

As not on-board health is a serious matter a "Task Force", composed of various interested actors including pilots and cabin crew, airline unions, lawyers, prosecutors, victims, physicians, has been set up to urgently address these issues.

The aim of "the task force" is to present evidence in order to oblige the aeronautic industries to eliminate the fume events and act as quickly as possible to protect the people on-board aircraft, whether they be our crews or our passengers.

On a positive note, at the last meeting of TC-436 (Air Quality Standards Group) in Cork (Ireland), a proposal was agreed to in order to push for a voluntary, urine and blood test, from crew members and if possible from willing passengers after a fume event.

EurECCA awaits consensus on this proposal and trusts that our endeavours will be successful in this matter.

News
Tue, 30 Apr 2019 21:46:03 +0000 EurECCA 82 at https://eurecca.eu EurECCA supports growing campaign to reduce cabin crew’s exposure to the physical and mental strains of their profession https://eurecca.eu/post/eurecca-supports-growing-campaign-reduce-cabin-crews-exposure-physical-and-mental-strains EurECCA supports growing campaign to reduce cabin crew’s exposure to the physical and mental strains of their profession

EurECCA Mon, 04/01/2019 - 18:14

Cabin crew unions, united in EurECCA, call on their national authorities, and on the European institutions, to recognise and re-label the profession of cabin crew as an arduous profession. Unions throughout Europe are demanding a lower retirement age, the recognition of the most common health issues as occupational diseases and the right to work in part time contracts.

Cabin crew working on board an aircraft are exposed to ergonomic, environmental, psychological and physical risks associated with their work. Examples include:

o Ergonomic risks: heavy lifting, working in increasingly narrow and confined spaces, vibrations and turbulence.
o Environmental risks: cosmic radiation, artificial light and changes in temperature.
o Psychosocial risks: rupture of the circadian cycle, exposure to jet lag resulting in disruption of meal and sleep routines, social isolation and the stress of having to manage unruly passengers and medical emergencies on board. Apart from this, in many European countries, cabin crew suffer from lack of work-life balance because they are not allowed to work part time.
o Physical risk: being exposed to contaminated cabin air by organophosphates.

Multiple studies have been published stating that cabin crew, as a result of these risks, are more prone to cancer, musculoskeletal diseases, hearing problems and psychological disorders. As these risks go largely unknown or even worse, disregarded we are now taking action and alerting both the national governments and European Commission Social Dialogue to the importance of protecting the mental and physical health of cabin crew.

Xavier Gautier, Secretary General of EurECCA, states, "The tendency of airlines to overcrowd aircraft combined with the lack of European standards for galley and aisle space is creating a serious problem in aviation. Passengers are seated so close to each other they often get irritated and even disruptive, thus jeopardising the occupational health and safety of cabin crew".

Corinne Basarot, representative of STAVLA and Health and Safety specialist of EurECCA states, “It is important to support this campaign and to make the public and the national authorities see that, while it may seem so from the outside, this is far from being a glamorous profession. Nobody except our families are witnesses to our exhausting and long working days and night and they, like us, suffer from cabin crew’s unpredictable work schedules which means we often miss important moments with loved ones for example, at weekends or national holidays".

http://chng.it/hg86fNfy5z

https://peticaopublica.com/search.aspx?q=snpvac

News
Mon, 01 Apr 2019 16:14:32 +0000 EurECCA 94 at https://eurecca.eu GREECE: a small country with big plan - R.A.C.U. https://eurecca.eu/post/greece-small-country-big-plan-racu GREECE: a small country with big plan - R.A.C.U.

EurECCA Thu, 01/10/2019 - 14:49
Dear colleagues. They immediately started working to improve the current working conditions of their colleagues and began to negotiate a new Collective Labor Agreement (CLA). Unfortunately, Chania, the third base, was closed in June 2018, and this was a major shock for both colleagues based there and for passengers. Furthermore, the Corfu base, that has been seasonal for the last 3 years, will not be re-opened.

With this instability, in a country that is the epitome of tourism, it is necessary for R.A.C.U to take action and ensure a solid future for its employees.

So far R.A.C.U is the first Union, whose representatives are Ryanair cabin crew, to be recognized by the company, and this is probably their greatest strength together with a fierce sense of internal solidarity.

With a positive attitude, good ideas and big hopes, R.A.C.U started a dialogue with the company that will hopefully result in a CLA for Greek cabin crew within the next months.

Let´s keep our fingers crossed!

News
Thu, 10 Jan 2019 13:49:40 +0000 EurECCA 100 at https://eurecca.eu EurECCA welcomes the publication by EASA of the Acceptable Means of Compliance and Guidance Material relating to aircrew medical fitness with ED Decision 2018/012/R https://eurecca.eu/post/eurecca-welcomes-publication-easa-acceptable-means-compliance-and-guidance-material-relating EurECCA welcomes the publication by EASA of the Acceptable Means of Compliance and Guidance Material relating to aircrew medical fitness with ED Decision 2018/012/R

EurECCA Wed, 01/09/2019 - 15:23

EurECCA welcomes the publication by EASA of the Acceptable Means of Compliance and Guidance Material relating to aircrew medical fitness with ED Decision 2018/012/R. The 99% who voted in favour of industrial action in the ballot clearly indi-cate how important it is for employees to show management they no longer accept further delays in meaningful negotiations.

The publicity paid lip service for the recognition of trade unions once again act as a delay tactic. That is remarkable, because according to her Irish contract Ryanair could force her to move. The Dutch judge however sentenced that in this case Dutch law goes above Irish law and Ryanair had no grounds to fire her. EurECCA welcomes this clear judgement on Home Base and the protection this gives to cabin crew from being send around Europe at will of Ryanair.

The judgement also constitutes a back support to Ryanair cabin crew across Europe who are more and more united in their determination to engage in a meaningful and genuine dialogue with their management on labour law issues that concern those who contribute to the airline’s success on a daily basis.

In order to allow cabin crew to consider Ryanair as an attractive employer, not just as a place to start but also as a place to continue their career, several key issues need to be tackled across the entire network. These include:

Ryanair must apply imperative national legislation to the contracts of employment and must comply with all internal human resources procedures of all European countries they have home bases in, under the EU REG 293/2008 (Rome I);

Ryanair is to initiate negotiations with the representatives appointed by the unions, without imposing any restrictions;

Ryanair must apply the same terms and conditions to all Ryanair Cabin Crew, including cabin crew employed via Workforce, Crewlink and any other future 3rd party company.

Regretfully, Ryanair choses to continue to ignore its workforce and gave these National Unions, no other choice but to call for a national 24 hours industrial action.

EurECCA actively supports this industrial action and calls upon the European Commission, and the Governments of every European country where Ryanair operates a home base, to act upon the social dumping performed by the Irish low cost carrier. National authorities are responsible for the enforcement of EU legislation and national imperative legislation. Ryanair can not be allowed to switch between EU and Irish legislation at their convenience.

Protecting cabin crews rights is one of the core principles of EurECCA

EurECCA also supports the National Unions in their demand to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the national civil aviation authorities to be more vigilant with Ryanair, and make them abide by the law. All flight time limitations and rest requirements must be followed, even on a strike day!

EurECCA supports the National Unions in their belief that Ryanair has to change its policy and attitude towards its Cabin Crew. Furthermore, Ryanair has to incorporate into its business model once and for all, the values of the European Union which are based on human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality and the rule of law.

On behalf of the EurECCA board and the whole European Cabin Crew family.

EurECCA represents, protects and develops the rights and needs of cabin crew all over Europe

EurECCA Executive Board

News
Sun, 15 Jul 2018 14:54:11 +0000 EurECCA 105 at https://eurecca.eu RACU Crew Union https://eurecca.eu/post/racu-crew-union RACU Crew Union

EurECCA Sat, 06/16/2018 - 18:22

Dear colleagues, EurECCA is happy to announce the membership of the greek cabin crew union R.A.C.U.

During the annual meeting in May, the conference welcomed the representative of R.A.C.U..
R.A.C.U., founded only several months ago, is the only union organising Cabin Crew in Greece and EurECCA is happy to support the colleagues politically to organise themselves.
